This week we launched our new topic: Invaders! It was fascinating to hear what all the different classes are going to learn about, the experiences that they are going to have, and the fun of it all! In Key Stage 1 the classes are going to be learning a lot about light and dark, and what 'invades' us at night. They are going to be looking at nocturnal animals. There's even a pyjama day happening today! In year 3, Miss Back has already had a Roman School day. The children learnt what it was like in Roman times.....and I am very scared, as there is an Roman army day coming up! They are also planning a trip to @Bristol. In year 4 they are planning an invasion of Anglo-Saxons and a fantastic trip to Escot. In year 5 space exploration is the main theme of the class, which you can read more about in the newsletter. And in year 6 they are covering a wide range of invaders, including making scarecrows to scare off invaders!! See below for more! Some of the children in Nursery decided that they needed to create a 'baddie trap'. They used a roll of masking tape and bars to fashion it together, but disaster struck, and the baddies escaped. The children thought about how they could make their trap stronger and more secure. This time they used string so that it would be super strong. They worked together negotiating where to put the string, where to tie and cut it and how to make it secure. Great teamwork, perseverance and thinking boys!
This week year 3 began their new topic, Roman Britain. When they came in to school they had no idea what was about to unfold! A Celtic roundhouse had been created for them in their classroom; Miss Back dressed up as Emperor Claudius and invaded their tribe. They made the decision to fight the Roman's and joined Boudicca in her battles. Unfortunately the Roman's defeated them and they became part of Roman society. They played Roman games, learnt Roman numerals to break secret codes, made Roman coins from clay and finally wrote a diary describing the change from a Celtic to Roman way of life which they wrote using Roman style ink and reed pens.
WOW! We had such an inspiring morning in the Foundation Stage today.
The Early Years Music Project came in and we 'mark made' to music. We created a squiggle for each sound. Staff mirrored the children's music with marks and vice versa. We put it in our continuous provision and the children had a great afternoon conducting music with marks. We have some very talented musicians in Budleigh! Thanks to Jane for a very engaging event. The children (and staff) loved it! |
