Warm Wish is a Group of parents who look to support the work of the swimming pool at St. Peters Church of England Primary School.
Six years ago money was given by the people of Budleigh in order to install heating into the pool and, as a result, the period of swimming at the school now runs from March through until November and an amazing number of children have been given the opportunity to learn to swim and life save. It has been noted by many previous pupils of the school that they well remember
the days when they would stand shivering in the pool trying to focus on learning to swim (and that was in the summer months!).
The only solace achieved was in the relative warmth of the changing rooms after the swim – amazingly enough those changing
rooms which were in place almost 40 years ago have only been changed in recent months!
The swimming pool needs constant support and consideration which the School Association cannot always commit time to. As
a result the Support Group has been set up to look at the monitoring and continual improvement of the facility for both the
school and the community.
Of course the children of Budleigh Salterton who attend St. Peters are the main beneficiaries of the facilities that the pool can
offer but the general community also have the opportunity to swim many times in the week and at weekends. This is reflected
in the fact that, over the first two weeks of the summer holidays in 2013, intensive swimming sessions and fun swims have
attracted in the region of 100 children. The creation of family swims, pool parties and bookable swimming slots were agreed
with the school as fund raising steps and the Group is looking to further improve the conditions for the children and others
who use it.
The work of the Warm Wish Group relies on funding and the improvements that take place because of the Group’s work are
testament to the interest and support of individuals and organisations within the school and the wider community. It’s an exciting time in the life of the pool and the school and hopefully, over the coming months and years, it will be a time where
many significant changes will take place.
THE 2014 CHALLENGE FOR WARM WISH
After 22 years of service, the polytunnel cover and it's metal support framework which give the school pool protection, are coming to the end of their useful life. The cover is rapidly degenerating and tears and holes can clearly be seen throughout the structure, these holes are letting in water and weakening the structure. At the current rate of deterioration, the 2014 swimming will be the last at St. Peters as the structure, in its weakened state, may become a health & safety issue.

It is important to Warm Wish that the children and adults of the community have the opportunity to learn to swim and improve their swimming to the best of their ability. We want swimming to be fun and to this end we have committed to raise the money which will enable the replacement of the current structure.
We are currently looking at a new cover, in the same style, but made from aluminium and polycarbonate which will make it more efficient and, in turn, make it a more modern and effective weatherproof enclosure. In order for this to be achieved, and for the continuation of swim coaching at the school, the community and the wider public, a sum in the region of £40,000 is needed. If the necessary money cannot be raised then the pool which has provided the means for swim coaching and enjoyment for almost 50 years will cease. We would hate for this to happen.
At the moment work is going on to raise the money needed for this project and we are asking individuals, families, businesses and charity organisations if they are in a position to contribute to our fundraising efforts and continue the incredible work that goes on within the pool from March – October each year, bringing a whole new generation of individuals through their early years swimming experience. The new enclosure may even bring the opportunity of extending the swimming season throughout the whole year.
To date we have received support from the following organisations:

We are indebted for the support received from these businesses, charity organisations and members of the local community but still need help to achieve our goal.
As we approach the closing stages of this project we would welcome any further support in order to help us reach our final target in replacing the much needed enclosure at the school pool, ensuring the continuation of swimming in our community.
If you feel you can help us then please contact us either via the school or on the contact form below. We thank you on behalf of the Warm Wish Fundraising Group and the children and staff of St Peter’s Primary School.
