Term Dates and Attendance
Regular attendance enables children to benefit from the education that St. Peter’s has to offer. To have a successful school career good attendance is vital. Attendance targets are set for the school and poor attendance is monitored so that necessary action can be taken to safeguard a child’s educational entitlement.
Absence due to Illness or Unexpected Emergency Please telephone school on the morning of the absence before 9.00am on 01395 443167 to let us know why your child is absent. Term Time Holidays The law states that parents do not have an automatic right to take their child out of school for holidays during term-time. The school may authorise an annual holiday, up to a maximum of 10 days’ holiday in any one academic year, but this is at the discretion of the Headteacher and will only be granted if the child has an attendance record of at least 95% over the previous twelve months. Parents/carers are required to complete the school’s absence request form (S2) to request absence for their child. This needs to be done well in advance before the holiday is booked. Holiday in excess of 10 days will not be authorised. (Form is available below) Other Absences during Term-Time There may be occasions during term time when it may be necessary for you to take your child out of school for a variety of reasons such as medical appointments, (which cannot be taken outside of school hours) significant family celebrations such as a wedding, music examination, religious observance etc. If your child has a good record of attendance these requests will be granted. If you do not request leave in advance then your child’s absence will be recorded as unauthorised. Education Welfare Officer An Education Welfare Officer comes into school regularly to check our registers and monitor patterns of lateness with the Headteacher. If they are not satisfied with a child’s absence record they will take appropriate action.
